Delete your Elmest account

You can delete your Elmest account, and everything it holds, at any time: from inside the app, or by writing to us if you no longer have it. This page explains both ways, what is deleted, and the little that stays.
In the app
Open Elmest and go to Settings. Tap your name at the top to open Your account, then tap Delete my account and confirm once. If you signed in with Apple, your iPhone asks you one more time so that Apple’s connection to Elmest can be revoked as well. The deletion starts the moment you confirm; you are signed out, and nothing can sign in as you again.
By email
If you no longer have the app, or would rather not open it, write to hello@elmest.app from the email address you sign in with, with “Delete my account” as the subject. We ask for nothing else: the address itself tells us the request is yours. The account is deleted within thirty days, and you receive a reply when it is done.
What is deleted
Your profile (name, email address, country, language), every conversation with Romeo and the photos and documents attached to them, your circle, everything Romeo remembers about you, any data export waiting to be downloaded, the feedback you sent us, and the sign-in itself. None of it can be recovered afterwards.
What stays
Two kinds of record remain, and neither can lead back to you. Safety events (which emergency route was shown, and in which country, never your words) and technical error reports are kept under a one-way hash of your account id, which points at nobody once the account is gone. Crash reports never carried a user identifier at all. If you joined the waitlist on this site, that email address is a separate list, covered by the privacy notice, and is removed when you ask.
How long it takes
In the app, the deletion begins at once and is normally complete within a minute. Should a step fail, because a connection dropped or a service was down, it is retried every night until it is done. Our record that you asked, holding nothing but the account id and the time, is dropped after thirty days.
If you only want some things gone
You do not have to delete your account to clear it. Under Settings and Data control you can clear all your chats, or have Romeo forget everything he remembers, and any single conversation can be deleted from its own menu. Each takes effect at once, and your account stays as it is.
